Jodhpur – The Famed Blue City of Rajasthan
Jodhpur the sun city of Rajasthan is famous for its blue colour spilled landscape that makes the city perfect for pictures. You can see the blue patterned houses clearly from Mehrangarh Fort top.
The strapping forts that tower this magnificent city sum up to a spectacle you would not want to miss. The mammoth, imposing fortress of Mehrangarh has a landscape dominating a rocky ridge with the seven gates leading out of the fortress. Jodhpur is also known for the rare breed of horses known as Marwari or Malani, which are only found here.
It is one of the largest forts in India situated 125m above the skyline of Jodhpur and enclosed by thick walls and with total seven entrances, the main entrance is the “Jay Pol” resembles victory over Jaipur, Udaipur and Bikaneri armies by Maharaja Man Singh, it is 300m up walk from the city or 5kms by road.
The Mehrangarh Fort also has a museum which is well stocked with selection of palanquins, heritage of rathore arms, costumes and paintings. The Gallery displays different colours of Marwar. The Turban Gallery in the Mehrangarh Museum seeks to preserve, document and display the many different types of turbans once prevalent in Rajasthan; every community, region and festival having had its own head-gear.
Beautiful white marble memorial build by Maharaja Sardar Singh in the memory of his father Maharaja Jaswant Singh ii, located near Mehrangarh Fort an array of whimsical domes is a peaceful spot outside the hubbub of city.
